Autumn 2010 Exhibits at MACAY

The Macay Museum begins its new autumn exhibits. Photography: Eduardo Arco and Julio Camil. The first provides an example of his mastery of the technique with “Illuminations” (rooms 4 and 5), a photographic series that brings alive the ancient tradition of illuminating black and white photographs with watercolors. Camil presents Sea and Desert (north gallery), an exhibition that reflects the contrasts in paradise where there are traces of the disasters caused by man in his quest to exploit them.

In Romance with Paper, Rosa Maria Velasco (8 bis) shows a set of beautiful and deep images. Using collage, the artist integrates a varied constellation of breathtaking views in their expressiveness.

The sculptor Paloma Torres shows “Architectures” (Room 11 bis). Her works have a great serenity and peace, thanks to a nearly monochromatic palette. With all the strengthgiven by minimalism, the works of Paloma reach an almost oriental spirit in their elegance and solemnity.

Artist Alonso Maza presents “Abductions 0:01” (room 1). From a speech built on the concept of UFO (Universe DreamlikeFactor), which is the name given by the artist to the destination and the huge swarm of possibilities in life, Alonso unleashes a universe of characters, free from all imposition, who are connected with the underworld or the UFO, to create new insights and stories.

The Macay has the privilege of displaying the latest work of Yucatecan painter Gabriel Ramirez (rooms 6 and 7), one of the most important artists of our country. His personal style is considered a virtuoso of color, expression and form.

Closing the loop, Pecanins Gallery presents two exciting exhibitions: Paso Doble, a collection of objects and personal images which belonged in life to Maria Teresa and Ana Maria Pecanins, founders of the iconic Gallery; as well as a wide selection of art collected by the Gallery over four decades.
