Day Trips

I leave for Chichen Itza tomorrow, and am wondering if a day trip to Merida would be fun for my kids (ages 8 and 10). Are there activities/things for the kids to do during the day? The only schedule of events I've found shows the parades - nearly all of which are at night. Also, I have read not to drive at night. Is it primarily the topes and pedestrians or are their other dangers? Thanks!

The main dangers of driving

The main dangers of driving at night in yucatan are the small, winding roads, pedestrians, animals, and lack of street lights. You are not in danger from carjackers, etc.

Hello, the taxi service from Merida airport has a fixed price to all the destinations in and out of Merida. To Chelem the fare is 560 pesos for a car (up to 4 passengers) and 660 pesos for a van (up to 7 passengers. Their booth is right outside the door at the arrivals terminal. You can also contact William Lawson who has a driving service here and see what he would charge.
