A Great Place to Stay in Celestun

It was very snowy and cold up in the north country so we checked on line and found a wonderful seat sale to Cancún to get out of the deep freeze. We arrived in Cancún and immediately hopped the airport bus for the Cancún bus station. We caught a city bus to Puerto Juárez then arrived by ferry to Isla Mujeres. Isla Mujeres was a nice quiet island but the weather didn't co-operate. We got back on the ferry, back to the bus station and headed out to Valladolid. There is a lot to do and see in Valladolid even in the pouring rain. We couldn't believe our luck.
We got back on the bus and went to Mérida and then on to the little fishing village of Celestún and found heaven. What a fabulous place, and to top it off we found a really special place to stay. About 1.5 km out of town is Casa de Celeste Vida run by Karen and Kenn Strass and their friend Wanda. I love to cook and we had a very well appointed kitchenette in our suite. The place was very clean and quiet. You are right on the ocean and can use kayaks, bikes and the beach furniture.
The beach is sandy and stretches for miles. There are so many shells of all different types to discover on your walks and we walked for miles in both directions. We even found a huge sea turtle that had washed up on the shore and took many pictures. Karen took me shopping in the market to show me where to buy the freshest of produce, fish and meats. Karen and Kenn arranged a tour for us to see the flamingos and our guide Arthur went above and beyond to educate us on the working of the Río and the lives of the fisherman and shrimpers in the area. They buy locally and support the local crafts people by taking orders for hammocks, fresh fish etc. I would highly recommend Celestún as a holiday destination and a visit to Celeste Vida.
