Hotel Labnah in Playa del Carmen

When planning our website we did it thinking of our values, customer orientation and honesty, so this is why the texts found here come from the guest’s comments made on our facilities and services. These are our promises:
Don’t expect anything fancy.
The location couldn’t be beat.
Less than 150 feet and you’re on the sand.
Fashioned after the Labna Ruins in the Yucatan.
The architecture of the building is really interesting with lots of twists, turns, stairways and bridges connecting buildings. There’s a lot of trees and plants that gives the hotel a relaxing feel.
Excellent value-price.
Free continental breakfast daily, more than sufficient to start the day.
So clean I wouldn’t hesitate to eat off the immaculate white tile floor in the rooms.
Our English isn’t perfect but we make ourselves understood and have no issues understanding you!
Lab Nah means in Mayan “Old House”, in July 2009 we celebrated our 9th Anniversary.
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO LEAVE YOUR COMMENTS ABOUT THE HOTEL BELOW. HOWEVER, PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE RESERVATION REQUESTS ON THIS WEBSITE, AS YUCATANTODAY.COM DOES NOT HANDLE HOTEL RESERVATIONS; YOU NEED TO CONTACT THE HOTEL DIRECTLY. THANK YOU.

Hotel Labnah Worst Hotel ever
We strongly advise everyone NOT to stay at the hotel Labnah. In the night between December 29 and December 30, 2011 someone, while we were out, entered our room and stole my camera (a Canon EOS + lens), a mobile phone and an ipod for a total of 1,200 euros! There was no evidence of infringement on the bedroom door or windows (most probably an inside job), which was closed when we went out and we found closed when we came back.
In all this, the Manager of the Hotel Labnah, refused to call the police, and did not take any responsibility for what has happened in her hotel. After speaking with both the tourist police and the judiciary police we found out that:
1) we were not the first people to complain about the Hotel Manager and the Labnah Hotel (other thefts were reported)
2) The Manager, Ms. Alejandra was supposed to come with us to the police to fill in her report and she should have called the police immediately but of course she never did none of the above.
3) if the tourist police would had been called immediately, they could have dealt with the incident straightaway instead of sending us around Playa Del Carmen to various local police offices and for sure avoiding difficulties in communication (the police could not speak English).
What is even stranger is that the day of the theft occurred was the first day that the hotel staff saw the camera around my neck, and even more suspicious is that the theft happened just few hours after the hotel was fully paid.
The manager, Ms. Alejandra Gutierrez, told us that no money were taken out from our account and that it was just a guarantee for the room to check that the credit card had enough money in it. Too bad that the full amount of money was taken out precisely on the evening of December 29, just hours before the theft.
The last two days before we left we asked repeatedly to speak with the manager again, but she was never there as she had always an emergency or an excuse why she could not be in the hotel. Awful management and customer service from the manager Ms. Alejandra Gutierrez.
It is a disgrace, Playa del Carmen is really beautiful and well worth it, but do not go to the Hotel Labnah.
There are many other hotels to choose from and certainly avoid going where you risk of being robbed, cheated, and have your holiday spoilt by losing precious days between police and records in case of problems and / or difficulty.

re. hotel labnah complaint
From the editor of Yucatan Today: I have sent an email to Alejandra asking her to respond to your comment.
The truth speaks by itself
I recognize the scope and power of the internet and social networks. It can help a business rise or break. Hopefully in the same period that customers Sara and Mauro stayed with us, so did our repetitive customers.
I will not go into details because I don’t want to fall in the game of threats, since the customers advised us that they were going to do it if they didn’t get what they wanted. I will be clear to readers: The same day that we asked them to cover the amount due, a few hours later they reported a robbery.
I was the first person to suggest them to go directly to Public Ministry because I’m also the first one interested in clarifying this kind of situation that involves the hotel that I’m in charge of and my staff too.
The Police officers came to the hotel facilities twice, they were present and their suggestion was the same: They must go to Public Ministry to make their report, and they will come to investigate and clarify the situation.
All this post is distorted and I’m not surprised, as I said earlier I will not lose my time refuting each of their arguments because Sara and Mauro didn’t want to waste their time going to the Public Ministry to make the complaint that would lead to clarification and end of this situation.
The hotel staff is always busy taking care of the needs of customers, replying to emails and phone calls and has no time to notice what our customers wear or what they carry around their necks. I wonder who leaves 1200 euros in items on the floor of a hotel room having safebox? By the way we do have their responsible signature of the use of the safe box.
Anyone who has traveled knows that hotels open vouchers to ensure the payment of the stay, also as hotel do not punish the customers, we only notified them to cover the amount due if they didn’t leave a guarantee or voucher. If this will cause that customers get angry we will change our reservation policy and we will charge the total amount of their stay from time of booking.
The 2012 is the end of an era, it means removing the negative feelings and be reborn in every way. We have joined this trend a long time ago. We send blessings to Sara and Mauro Busana wherever they are.
Theft in Labnah, manager refuse to call the police
Dear Ms Gutierrez,
I found that your reply to our post was misleading, inaccurate and in every sense a simple character assassination of me and the truth.
It is interesting you want to avoid details of this case and at no point have threats been made here are some details you are trying to avoid.
·Why on the night of the theft the police were not called immediately as we requested??? The staff implied the procedure was to wait for the hotel manager to arrive on the premises (it took you 11 hours to show up missing our original appointment at 9.00 am) and furthermore “missing” us for the remainder our stay, with urgent matters arising after every request for a further meeting.
·Secondly, to the point above, the delay in the alerting the police on the same night of the theft meant that the police hands were tied in investigating the matter properly (The hotel should have alerted them the same night). We spent our day travelling from Police Station to station. The language barrier preventing us from quickly advising the police as to our situation. I believe after the manager refused to contact the police or to come with us to report the theft this was a serious lack of good management and care for the guests (even “misleading” the investigation.) The police told us YOU WERE supposed to come with us!
·We went to the Touristic Police first and the Public Ministry, we have the reports if you care to read them.
·Why, as you say, were 1200 euros lying around on the floor of our room? Simple as the safe was not large enough to fit it inside, aside from the fact that you should me more worried about the security of your hotel in the first place. (A room is not a place for items to be stolen from)
·The point of the credit card is as such: the night of the theft we were asked to provide a swipe of the card to guarantee funds for the stay. This, I accept is normal I have no issue with this, the problem is this was not the case here, instead of as you say guaranteeing the room the funds were actually charged! As my credit card statement will prove. Then the camera, iPod, phone as you so eloquently tried to blame us for going missing was stolen from our room in as little as 2 hours later. Maybe we should forward this case to Agatha Christie or Poirot! What a mystery!
We do not need blessings from you just a simple apology would have been sufficient instead you have tried to question my integrity. You were the one who washed her hands on the matter and didn’t show up to meet with us for the rest of our stay even if we did request it on a number of occasions. However I am pleased to see you take so much interest in the matter now.
