Restaurant of the Month

Casa de Piedra at Hacienda Xcanatun

Fine dining in a 18th century hacienda is the name of the game at Casa de Piedra restaurant at the Hacienda Xcanatun. Artistically presented and deliciously tasty food is par for the course for each and every item listed in their rather extensive menu that includes house specialties, fresh fish and seafood, meats and poultry and Yucatecan specialties.

Starting out with the Michelada ceviche with fresh catch of the day, everything we ordered was exquisite. Mind you the fish (tuna) was almost raw, but oh-so delicious! We thought the goat cheese in a delicate pastry and side salad is another must for starters.

If it is fish you are savoring, let it be known that Casa de la Piedra serves no frozen fish. Twice a week they have fresh fish flown in from Mexico City, plus, the chef buys fresh catch-of-the-day fish daily that are delivered by local fishermen from Progreso.

Sesame crusted tuna and fresh tuna carpaccio with oriental dressing are two tuna options. Cobia sautéed in olive oil and served over roasted red onions and oven dried basil tomatoes or sautéed in rosemary just with grilled veggies is another choice. Or try the shrimp stuffed with prunes and bacon or marinated in three mild chilis served over pasta and Ratatouille. Meats and poultry include beef tenderloin, New York steak, Argentinean strip steak (arrachera), duck and chicken breast all prepared in interesting savory ways.

Casa de Piedra has a full bar and serves not only a great martini, but a lovely special drink of the house that is both different and refreshing.

Desserts are also unfailingly delicious, when we let ourselves indulge. And nothing beats lingering over a capuccino, a rich dessert and a cabellito of Sambuca or Xtabentun while overlooking the beautiful green and verdant gardens of the hacienda.

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Treat yourself to a Casa de Piedra experience.
