The Bicycle Route

To read in Spanish click here espanol

Get your bicycle out or rent one on the Main Plaza or at the Monument to the Flag (next to McDonalds on Paseo de Montejo).

Every Sunday from 8 AM to 12:30 PM more than 5 kilometers of roads in Merida are closed off to traffic (east to west streets do have traffic so you must follow traffic rules and obey the stop lights) allowing cyclists to enjoy a morning of bicycling in a family-oriented ambiance that is healthy and safe.

The Bici-Route runs from La Hermita de Santa Isabel (Calle 79 by 60), north to the San Juan Park, continues north to the Main Plaza, then north along the Paseo Montejo to the fountain by Burger King. You can get onto the Bici-Route at any point.

The Bici-Route is open to families, competitive cyclists, tourists, young people, old people, everybody!

Another fun aspect of the Bici-Route is all the cultural, sport, recreational and health events in the parks along the way. These stops include: La Ermita, San Juan, the base of the Paseo Montejo and the area in front of the Hotel Fiesta Americana.

If you don’t have a bike, there are two places where you can rent one for $10 pesos an hour. One place is by the Municipal Building on Calle 62 between 61 and 63 and the Join in on this fun, healthy way to spend a Sunday morning, other is by the Monument to the Flag on the Paseo Montejo. You will have to leave an official ID which will be returned upon.
